Use of e-cigarettes has risen dramatically to several million people globally since their entry into the market about 15 years ago. Widely used in the US, Europe and China, sales are increasing in most high-income countries as well as across Africa and Asia. Their popularity may be due to heavy promotion in youth-driven media channels, their low cost, and the allegation that e-cigarettes are safer than traditional cigarettes.
